Cole Coffeefield, the most ‘clutch’ playoff rookie in NHL history

Cole Coffeefield, the most 'clutch' playoff rookie in NHL history

Since joining the Canadians, Cole Cofield quickly became a fan favorite among CH fans. His good humor, his offensive skill and his chemistry with Nick Suzuki all played a part in it.

Another factor that helps him is his ability Clutch. He may be a little young, but that doesn’t stop him from being there for special occasions. Keep in mind that his first two goals in the NHL were scored in overtime.

During the playoffs, we experienced almost consistent progress from him with each game. In addition, his ability to produce in important moments has not really disappeared.

Source? Cofield has three points in overtime since the start of the playoffs, a record for the first year in NHL history.

I say “freshman” because, theoretically, he’s not a rookie until next season.

Speaking of overtime, from the beginning of the current series, we noticed that they have benefitted from CH. The team won in overtime to eliminate the Jets and Golden Knights, and don’t forget that they won in 60 minutes to avoid elimination in Game # 5 and # 6 against Toronto and in Game 4 against Lightning last night. Overall, the Montreal team has a 6-1 overtime record during the current playoffs.

But back Clutch Coal Coffeefield.

In addition to being solid in great moments (like his team), Cofield now has 12 points from 19 games since the start of the playoffs. This puts him third in the CH scorers in the 2021 playoffs, but also puts him in the same rank when you compare him to all the rookies who played in the playoffs for CH.

Only Claude Lemieux (16 points) and Jacques Lemire (13 points) did better than the younger Maverick.

Canadians # 22 is a special player, and while he may not be very hard, he can stand when the time comes to lead his team to victory.

He really is the “little man on special occasions”.
