The latest news on COVID-19 in BC

3 pm – BC 738 new cases, 13 additional deaths recorded

Another 738 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and an additional 13 died of respiratory illness, said regional health officer Dr Bonnie Henry. This is by far the deadliest day of the pandemic in British Columbia.

Of the new cases, 443 were reported in the Fraser Health District, and 169 were positive tests in Vancouver Coastal Health.

Of the 61 people in critical care, 294 were hospitalized.

There have been a total of 29,066 positive tests and 371 COVID-19 related deaths in BC since the outbreak. More than 100 people died in November alone.

2:45 pm – Approximately 1,300 national exemptions were granted for COVID-19 border restrictions: authorities

The federal government granted 1,300 national interest exemptions during the COVID-19 epidemic to allow people into Canada ineligible under current border restrictions.

The Canadian border has been closed to everyone since March, but the specific list of people has grown longer as the epidemic continues.

Among those allowed were workers in need and Canadian citizens and family members of permanent residents.
