Donald Trump keeps secret documents related to Iran and China in his house

Documents seized from Donald Trump’s Florida residence in August contain highly sensitive information about Iran and China that could reveal U.S. espionage practices, the Washington Post reported Friday.

One of the documents seized by federal investigators depicted Iran’s missile program. Another “described highly sensitive intelligence work aimed at China,” according to the American daily, citing a source familiar with the matter.

The former US president left the White House with boxes of documents. However, a 1978 law requires any American president to turn over his emails, letters and other work documents to the National Archives.

Investigators seized nearly 11,000 documents in a stunning search based on warrants for “withholding classified documents” and “obstructing a federal investigation.”

These documents include just over 100 classified documents, some of which are classified as top secret and are usually only available to a very restricted circle and under strict security conditions.

However, at the luxury residence of Mar-a-Lago, the documents were stored in different places, and especially in Donald Trump’s personal office, unsecured places, according to the Ministry of Justice, which is leading the investigation.

The organization defended Mar-a-Lago’s search on national security concerns, arguing that Donald Trump is suspected of violating the Espionage Act of 1917, which prohibits the possession and sharing of highly sensitive documents related to national defense.

Donald Trump is also suspected of obstructing the investigation, with his lawyers claiming there were no government documents at Mar-a-Lago before the search. He was not charged.

At Donald Trump’s request, the court appointed an independent expert to examine the documents to determine their nature, whether confidential or not.

The ministry said in a court document on Thursday that the character of 15 of them was the reason for the differences between the parties.
