On Thursday, Montreal Public Health revealed that one-third of all new infections detected in Montreal came from “travelers outside Canada.”

“Public health officials have expressed some concern about the increase in cases in the wake of the circulation of the Delta variant, mainly found among travelers in Quebec,” Minister Dubey wrote.

Minister Dubey points out the delay in transmitting positive results from passengers at the federal government airport to regional public health directorates, which could reach up to seven days.

“These delays mean that passengers with a positive test result and exclusion from quarantine activities may be transmission vectors in the population. This delay is detrimental to the management and potential contacts of these passenger cases by public health officials and contributes to the increase in community transmission of the virus,” the minister explained in his letter.

He asks that “steps be taken” to reduce this delay. Mr Dubey stressed that sampling facilities at the airport “do not seem appropriate to allow passengers to move safely and stay in line in accordance with health measures”.

The Canadian border has been reopened to vaccinated American travelers since August 9 and must be reopened to other countries around the world on September 7. Expect increased ridership at airports. Travelers are not required to book a three-night hotel stay when arriving in the country.

Quebec has asked Ottawa to “consider reintroducing this mandatory quarantine” if the federal government “fails to ensure strict and strict monitoring of detentions for all non-vaccinated passengers.”

Fully vaccinated children and dependents should still be detained, especially for visitors entering Canada for humanitarian reasons.
