Google’s Recorder app now lets you edit recordings via transcript text

Google first introduced its advanced voice recording app, the Pixel 4. It improved Google’s ability to transcribe text without an internet connection and it worked surprisingly well. This is a very easy way to record a conversation or interview, and then go back and search through the text to find important parts. The app will then be made available for older Google Pixel devices.

Version 2 of Google Recorder became available to Pixel users yesterday, and we found it pre-loaded in our Pixel 5 review unit. The new feature allows you to trim parts of the recorded audio by selecting transliterated text and cropping it. This makes it easy to remove unwanted audio from the recording without listening to the recording.

The new version of the app allows you to create visual waveform videos along with your recordings – transcriptions – so you can share them on social media. You can also choose between 1: 1, vertical or landscape aspect ratios.

Edit and share features are new to Google Recorder. The app can also detect music, dog sounds, laughter and applause and tag them in the transcription. Transliteration is done completely offline and, for example, allows you to automatically tag key elements of the recording while capturing the speech.
