In just five words, Kraft Heinz sparks a debate about how you should store your ketchup.
On Thursday, the maker of the popular tomato condiment settled the debate: “Ketchup. goes In the Fridge!!!” (“Ketchup. Goes. In. The. Fridge!!!”).
Kraft reached nearly 5 million people with a tweet.
A day later, the company asked people via a Twitter poll whether they kept their ketchup refrigerated or in the pantry. The results largely support the company as 63% of the more than 13,000 respondents voted for the first answer.
On the other hand, 36.8% of those questioned prefer to keep their ketchup in the cupboard.
However, the debate continues. As CNN explained, some Twitter users expressed disgust with the cold ketchup, pointing out that the bottles were stored at room temperature on restaurant tables.
Once a bottle of ketchup is opened, there is no need to discuss it with other consumers that it is in the fridge.
In 2017, a Twitter user posed a similar question to Heinz’s US subsidiary via the social media website. “Due to natural acidity, Heinz ketchup is shelf stable, but refrigerate after opening to maintain product quality,” replied Heinz.
