‘It’s better than it was’: Time to wait for the electric vehicle to improve

Even as car promoters promise short lead times to get an electric car, Quebecers are unclear on the delivery date of their new car.

“In terms of availability, you have to understand that it is better than before. There are still people who think it’s a 2-3 year wait, but that’s not true. In most cases, it’s a wait of less than a year,” says Luc Samure, promoter of the Montreal Electric Vehicle Show.

The sixth edition of the Montreal Electric Vehicle Show, which takes place from April 21 to 23 at the Olympic Stadium, attracts several thousand eager visitors every year. While some of them are looking for their next car, others come to learn about the latest technology.

“People often book 5-6 vehicles at a time to ensure that there is exactly one. As soon as the first vehicle is ready, they cancel their other reservations, making room for others. So we expect the expectation to be less in the coming year,” explained Mr. Samure.

He said 55% of electric vehicles sold last year were delivered within 12 months.

Waiting cars

Many show visitors met Log Complained about the delay.

“It’s a shame to have to wait so long, because technology advances so quickly in the two years you wait, you end up with a car that’s no longer up-to-date,” lamented Serge Cousineau from Longueuil.

Despite the delay, the septuagenarian is eager to make his transition to electric. He’s considering settling on the Kia EV6, an electric SUV that’s very popular because of its affordability.

“We have to wait at least two years for this model, but we have no choice. If you want to make a change, you have to take a number and wait,” sighs Bernard Boisvenu, who recently reserved a Kia.

This car manufacturer is the only one that has devoted more time to the delivery of its vehicles. Sylvain Parenteau, from Quebec, paid a deposit 12 months ago for his dream SUV, the Winfast VF8.

“Delays are a little longer than expected, but the delivery boat is on its way! We know the vehicles are coming,” he says, expressing happiness about his choice.

Family choice

Electric cars are sparking excitement among young and old alike as people of all ages attend the Montreal Electric Vehicle Show on Saturday.

Julien Chaumont and Laurence Le Guillaume are considering switching to electric soon, even if they wait. They came with their three children to see different cars.

“It’s part of our plans. However, since we won’t be buying right away, we’re not really worried about waiting. That may change by the time we’re ready to buy,” said the family father.

The family used the saloon to get information, but didn’t forget to have fun. Kids were able to try out the vehicles their parents wanted to their delight.

“We tried Lucid, we really liked it!” The older man replied with a big smile.

The Montreal Electric Vehicle Show will welcome visitors one last time on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. before concluding its sixth edition.
