Amman | Jordan’s Prince Hamza, who is facing charges of conspiracy against his half-brother King Abdullah II, said he would not follow orders, in an audio recording released overnight on Twitter from Sunday to Monday.
“When he told me that I was not allowed to go out, tweet, communicate with people and that I was only allowed to see my family (Chief of Staff General Yusuf Hunity’s orders), I did not obey,” he told a telephone correspondent in the recording.
On Saturday, the Chief of Staff went to Prince Hamza’s house and asked him to suspend “all movements and activities aimed at Jordan’s security and stability,” but he said the meeting went badly. Deputy Prime Minister Aimane Safadi on Sunday.
“I recorded and distributed the entire conversation (…) Now I’m just waiting to see what happens and what they do. I do not want to move because I do not want to make the situation worse, ”Prince said in his last recording.
On Saturday, Prince Hamza announced he was under “house arrest” at his palace in Amman. In a video aired by his lawyer to the BBC, he claimed that the Army Chief of Staff had told him he was “not allowed to leave” his house. He denied involvement in the conspiracy, accusing Jordanian officials of “corruption” and “incompetence.”
According to Mr Safadi, two Jordanian dignitaries, Bassem Awdallah and Sheriff Hassan Ben Zaid, as well as 14 to 16 others were arrested in an attempt to “destabilize” the kingdom.
