Kia last week published photos of the first model in its history with an electric drive only. Taking the form of a compact crossover, the EV6 will be a cousin of the Hyundai Ionic 5 that was unveiled a few weeks ago.
In line with its design-centric brand philosophy, Kia has carved out a modern proposition that contrasts between a hatchback and a compact SUV. The front end gives a very noticeable break with the “Tiger Nose” grille that Kia has been trying to perfect for many generations of models.
Instead, it is the headlights that attract attention, because they are connected to the lateral line by the wheel arches. The back is also very interesting, with a series of diodes crossing the tailgate and trying to extend the line of the sill skirts.
On the mechanical side, we’ll have to wait for the official launch scheduled for March 30 to find out what’s in store at the manufacturer. Reform architecture similar to Ionic 5 should be logically qualified, as it shares the E-GMP platform.
Therefore, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive versions should be provided with total power from 168 hp to 302 hp, depending on whether one or both engines are selected. Two batteries should be part of the image, one for input variations 58 kWh and the other 77.4 kWh capacity.
