At a press conference at Loto-Quebec headquarters on Friday, Finance Minister Eric Girard unveiled the main lines of a “vaccine competition” set up by his government to encourage the population to increase sleeve.
Adults can win one of the four prizes of $ 150,000 to be drawn every Friday in August if they are vaccinated and registered for at least one dose. Finally, the $ 1 million jackpot will be drawn on September 3 on all registered Quebecs receiving both doses.
12- to 17-year-olds who receive at least one dose of the vaccine have a chance to win $ 10,000 scholarships, which are drawn each week in August. The double dose qualifies for the final draw of the Sc 20,000 Scholarships on September 3rd.
Positive incentive
The announced goal of Health and Social Services Minister Christian Dubey is to encourage people who have not yet considered their appointment for their second dose by September 3rd.
“It’s not just a reward for those who have already registered, but also for those who have been vaccinated,” he said Friday.
72% of Cubans have been vaccinated for the first time so far, but only 46% have had two. Quebec aims to fully vaccinate 75% of the population by the end of August. To do this, the government must send 600,000 Cubans to their meetings before 1 p.m.Is By September, 82% of the population had achieved vaccine coverage by that date, Christian Dubey said.
Minister Eric Girard acknowledged that the impact of such an initiative on vaccination rates would be difficult to predict, but said he hoped it would improve Quebec’s results.
- Listen to Alexander Dubey and Elsie Lefebvre’s analysis on QUB Radio:
“We ‘ve seen all the other lotteries that are done in Canada and North America. It’s hard to spot a variable, but it’s definitely a positive incentive,” he said.
Other prices?
Quebec is not the only province to have set up a vaccination lottery to encourage its population to be vaccinated.
In Alberta, there are three prizes of $ 1 million and prizes from government WestJet and Air Canada airlines, as well as the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Canadian League. There will also be prizes from Football (LCF).
- Listen to Vincent Desuralt’s interview with Ditor Oliver Drouin, a pediatrician at Ste-Justin ‘on QUB Radio and a clinician researcher at the School of Public Health:
In this regard, Christian Dubey invited private companies to come forward who want to contribute to the vaccine competition. In particular, Air Canada has already raised its hand to offer travel packages.
