Major Cleanup of Illegal Dump in Beauport: Items thrown into nature without any inconvenience

Blankets, a car seat, a paint pan, a construction canvas: The list of items found in an illegal dump in Beauport Thursday by Previan employees participating in a cleanup program was startling.

Two sites for this major cleaning operation are located near Chemin du Lac-des-Roches and Place Belavens. They are recognized by the City of Quebec and the Poornat Institute. In three hours, no less than 15 tons of waste was collected.

“These sites need a little love. Maybe we think there is an Ecocenter very far away and sometimes when we go to take our things it is too far away,” said Véronique Chayer, director of communications at Previan, a high-tech company.

Throughout the morning, the employees who participated in this program to give back to the community, unearthed and cleaned all kinds of items left in the nature without any trouble.

“We want to do good and hope to return a small forest space to the people,” says M^me Chair.

Two buses are hired to transport employees including computer engineers, accountants, mechanical engineers etc. He left the office temporarily.

According to Chief Financial Officer, Louis-Georges Gauvin, everyone is very happy to be involved in this large operation.

“We think there is great enthusiasm. We are here to work for our environment and our planet,” added Mr Gauvin.

“We collect the waste to send it to the right place,” he continued.

According to the Poornat Institute, which monitored the activity, “the severity of illegal dumping is widespread across America and across the planet.” For example, the average lifespan of a plastic bag is 400 to 500 years and it can reach up to 1000 years for a plastic bottle.
