Martin Saint-Louis has signed a three-year contract extension and will officially take over as head coach of Montreal Canadians on a permanent basis on Wednesday.

The agreement binding the two parties is valid until the end of the 2024-2025 campaign. “It is a great honor for me to sign this agreement to lead the Canadians,” he told a news conference in St. Louis.
“We are delighted that Martin has officially become the head coach for the Montreal Canadians,” General Manager Kent Hughes, who did not attend the meeting, said in a statement. Martin is an excellent interlocutor and a hockey enthusiast with undeniable leadership qualities. He has a very deep understanding of the background and our sport.
His leadership of the team has infused new energy into our group and we are excited that he will guide our team in the years to come.
The 46-year-old former player is therefore the 32nd head coach in club history, replacing Dominic Ducharm on February 9. He initially took the reins of the roster on an interim basis and finished 14-19-4. Hobbs finished the regular season last in the National Hockey League.
“It gives me time and opportunity to build anything, and then it doesn’t happen overnight,” St.-Louis added.
