Molly Jepsen is the first Canadian Paralympic champion in Beijing

The British Colombian won his fifth Paralympic medal with a time of 1 minute 21 seconds 75/100. She especially won a bronze in this category in Pyongyang four years ago.

Zepsen defeated the last competitor, Zhang Mengkyu of China, who started with 1: 21.85. Sweden’s Ebba Arszo won bronze with a time of 1: 23.20.

Normally we hit these trials a million times before racing there, but this is only my fourth run, “Jepsen said in a statement.

Two other Canadians are on the run. In her first Paralympic Games, Michael Goselin finished 5th with a time of 1: 25.75 and Alana Ramsey finished 7th with a time of 1: 26.08.

The current double champion, French woman Marie Bouchet, lost the ski just seconds after the start. With this she was unable to complete the test.

In the seated Downhill event, the lone Canadian, Katie Combolzier, missed the gate and did not finish the competition.

Only three skiers in the event recorded times on board with several waterfalls. Anna-Lena Forster of Germany (1: 30.59) and Momoka Murawoka of Japan (1: 29.77) won gold over Liu Sitang (1: 32.10) of China.

The first gold medal of the Paralympic Winter Games was awarded to visually impaired athletes at the bottom of the downhill. She returned to Slovak Henrietta Farkasova and her guide Martin Motica.
