A six-week suspension of train service between Montreal and New York will begin Monday through June 30 due to major maintenance work on the railway.
An agreement was reached between Amtrak and CN that the American Railway Company would pay for these repairs, which would allow trains to run faster on certain sections between the two cities.
“This work will reduce, but not eliminate, speed restrictions on hot start orders in the future,” the two rail companies said in a press release.
“CN has been planning the work for several months and will try to carry out the necessary work quickly and safely in 2024,” he added.
Tens of thousands of passengers use the “Adirondack” train that connects Montreal and New York every year.
The last departure was at 10:50 a.m. on Monday before the route was temporarily closed.
“I can imagine it being inconvenient, especially for those who wait until the last minute to book,” said one passenger. I have not heard about this service shutdown.
“We were worried whether we will be able to travel on this train or not,” another woman said before boarding the train.
As of June 30, people wishing to travel to New York will have to resort to other modes of transportation such as car and plane.
