Motsep is the only candidate for president

Motsep is the only candidate for president

The African Football Confederation (CAF) will have a new president on Friday, scheduled for the Electoral General Assembly of the continental organization, in Rabat (Morocco), where only one candidate is in contention, following the withdrawal of South Africa’s Patrice Motsep and three other candidates.

While they were initially four contenders, Ivorian Jacques Anoma, Senegal Augustin Sengor and Mauritanian Ahmed Yahya decided to withdraw their candidacy, giving their support to Motsep.

The outgoing CAF president, Malagasy Ahmed Ahmed, who was among the candidates for the new order, was convicted in a case of moral violations, including “distribution of gifts” and “theft”.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has reduced the sanction imposed by the International Federation (FIFA) Ethics Commission from five to two years, confirming Ahmed Ahmed’s disqualification for this election.

Motsep (59), owner of South African club Mamelodi Sundowns, who, unlike other candidates, will be the new owner of CAF, but observers will not give his skin much.

True, everything managed by the Moroccan head of state, Fouzi Lexa, is now called the “Robert Consensus” until everything was managed by the head of Morocco, until Jacques Anouma, former president of the Ivory Federation, or Augustin Sengore, president of the Senegalese Federation, enters the game of FIFA Gianni Infantino president.

Thus, there is no suspense in Friday Rabat as the cards have already been distributed. South Africa’s Patrice Motsep is set to become the President of the African Body, while Senegal’s Augustine Sengore is his 1st Vice President and Mauritanian Ahmed Yahya is his 2nd Vice President.

In the case of Ivorian Jacques Anoma, he will be appointed Special Adviser to the President. Never seen before in continental football anniversaries.

However, FIFA Secretary-General Senegalese Fatma Zamora said in February that the world body did not intend to sponsor any candidacy for the presidency of the African Confederation. “The best candidate will be chosen by the 54 African Federation members of the CAF according to their criteria. The best can achieve success,” she said in an interview with private Senegal television TFM.

Addressing the highlights of her event, which was unveiled on February 25, Patrice Motsep stressed the need to attract private sector investors in African football. The financial aspect, of course, pushes him in favor, for the time being, he can maintain a CAN every 2 years instead of every 4 years, even if his exact point does not appear in the program.

“We have to rebuild the Africa Cup of Nations in the next two years. There have been discussions about whether it should happen every 4 years or every 2 years. Personally, I think it should be every 2 years initially. We need money from CAF competitions,” he said.

On the other hand, the owner of the Mamelodi Sundowns Club assured that he was not willing to move the CAF headquarters from Cairo.

In this election, members of the General Assembly will be invited to elect their two representatives to the Council of the International Federation, of whom Algerian Federation (FAF) President Kherdine Jetchi, along with Morocco, Fouji Lexas, Egypt’s Hani Aborida and Guinea Guinea from Guinea.
