Trevor Zegros was an eye-opener against the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night, but the Anaheim Ducks were forced to concede a 4-1 loss.
The 21-year-old centerman beat goaltender Filip Gustavsson on a stunning Michigan goal in the second period, but it was eventually overturned following a video challenge for offside. He previously scored two goals in the NHL, only in his second season.
The Ducks were still able to recover thanks to Pavel Regenda’s first career goal in the second period, but Kirill Kaprizov tied the game on the power play by redirecting the puck behind John Gibson.
The game saw action once again in the second period when Nathan Beaulieu threw the gloves on Connor Dewar after deep contact. However, it interrupted a 2-on-1 run by the Ducks at the same time at the other end of the rink.
The Ducks had to deal with five defensemen after Kevin Shattenkirk didn’t finish the game after suffering a lower-body injury before starting the final period.
After inheriting 5 against 3, the Wild had a chance to break the deadlock due to Matt Dumba. He left the crease unnoticed and placed the puck in the top corner.
Kaprizov returned with his 10th goal of the campaign to make it 3-1 less than two minutes later, beating Gibson into the back of the net after receiving Mats Zuccarello’s pass. Joseph Cramarossa completes the scoring with his first NHL goal since February 14, 2017.
The Wild therefore bounced back after being shut out in its last two outings.
