(Washington) Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, a rival to wear the mandatory mask, tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, announcing his services the day after he attended an indoor public event.
Mr Abbott, who has been fully vaccinated, said, “He is being tested every day and today he has his first positive result,” said Mark Miner, his communications director.
He “keeps himself isolated in the governor’s residence and continues to be tested daily,” he said, adding that Mr Abbott was being treated with a cocktail of antibodies Regeneran.
The governor said, “I am healthy and have no symptoms at present. Information will be provided to anyone who is in close contact with the Governor. Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott was declared negative, ”the statement said.
Greg Abbott was one of the governors who necessarily opposed the wearing of masks. He also announced a decree such as preventing any government agency from vaccinating against Kovid-19 or receiving public funds.
“Governor Abbott put the political calculations for Republican primary before public health from the beginning. I hope he recovers quickly. I hope he acts more responsibly for families and children in Texas,” former Julian Castro, the former mayor of San Antonio, Texas, responded on Twitter.
“The virus is spreading like wildfire in Texas, including children. I hope the governor will lift his ban on the need for masks in schools,” he said.
Mr Castro retweeted a short video showing Mr Abbott the day before at an indoor event, with dozens of masks around.
The governor himself tweeted photos of the meeting on his personal account on Monday evening.
