Police attend Costco for refusing to wear anti-mascara mask or leave – Kelowana News

On the first day Costco Kelowana patrons were required to wear face masks, the store had to call the police after the customer gave an exemption to the new policy.

Kelowana RCMP called Castanet on Monday morning to call them to the Kelowana Costco location, “following a disturbance by a patron who refused to wear a mask after entering the business and refusing to leave when asked by staff.”

“Our officer attended to investigate allegations of infringement. Once spoken, the man agreed to leave the business without further incident,” the Kellowana RCMP said.

Costco announced last Thursday that they were switching to a mandatory mask policy and implemented the protocol in all their stores on Monday morning.

“Costco has had a face mask policy since May 4, 2020, but exemptions have been granted to members who are unable to wear a mask due to medical condition. This is no longer the case. And CEO Craig Zelinek said.

The Klovana RCMP states that businesses have the right to ask their clients to wear face shields or non-medical masks while on campus “when they are not socially capable of disengagement and refuse services for non-compliance”.

“Clients have the right to abstain from business if they decide not to wear a protective mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

According to the latest information from Dr. Bonnie Henry on Monday, 1,959 new COVID-19 cases were reported in BC from November 14 to November 16, including 87 in Interior Health.
