Pollution erupts in Spain, especially among young people

The health situation in Spain has deteriorated significantly in recent days, with an explosion of COVID-19 contaminants among young people, forcing authorities to tighten measures as vaccinations accelerate.

“The statistics today are not good at all,” commented Fernando Simon, chief epidemiologist at the Ministry of Health on Monday evening.

By the time health data was last published, the rate of these events had risen to 200 (204 per 100,000 residents in the last two weeks) against an average of 152.8 on Friday.

In the last 72 hours the Spanish Ministry of Health on Monday identified 32,607 new COVID-19 cases and 23 deaths.

Dr. Simon described the condition as “complicated”, but was glad it was not experienced “within the parameters of severity”, i.e. the number of those admitted to the hospital or the number of deaths.

At the same time, the vaccine campaign is accelerating: 40.3% of the 47 million Spaniards are fully vaccinated against coronavirus, and half (55.9%) have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

In view of the deteriorating health conditions, many regions in Spain, such as Andalusia and Catalonia, are planning to tighten the screws this week and restore sanctions, since June 26, masks are no longer mandatory outdoors.

Last week, a large outbreak of ballerinas found at least 1,824 infected people, with hundreds of young people returning to the peninsula to party in Mallorca. Nearly 6,000 people were detained across Spain.

With nearly 81,000 deaths and more than 3.8 million cases, Spain is one of the most affected countries in Europe by the epidemic.
