Principals are disappointed with the confirmation of more COVID cases in Calgary schools

Since school opened last week, Calgary Board of Education officials have confirmed COVID-19 cases at Canyon Meadows School, Bounce High School, Bridlewood and Lester Pearson High School.

Also, a message was sent home Tuesday to parents of Arbor Lake School and Brentwood School regarding a positive case in a Southland transport employee.

Also, the COVID case was confirmed in five schools in the Calgary Catholic School District, including St. Angela, Divine Mercy, Notre Dame, St. Wilfrid and St. Francis High School.

But there are still questions about who will be affected, and how many students and staff will be detained.

In Edmonton, 100 students were sent home Tuesday morning after a COVID case was confirmed at Ross Shepherd High School, while two other schools were confirmed.

Concerns about high schools are particularly growing, as those buildings often face larger class sizes and often appear crowded in the hallway and between classes.

Bones Principal MacDonald, who did not return post-media messages at his school, invited regional government officials to visit Bones. But Lagrange Press Secretary Colin Atchison suggested that school visitors were not a good idea.

“Some parts of our society have not been touched by COVID-19, and unfortunately schools must experience some situations. It is also important to remember that students are isolated outside of school. They should only look outside to see examples of school-age children in public outside of school age,” Acheson said.
