“We know we are living in an extraordinary situation, but this government should know that violating workers’ rights is not acceptable and should not consult their union representatives,” CUPE Education Sector Vice President Richard Delisley denied.

In a letter to the management of educational institutions, Public Health called for “monitoring of vaccination coverage of employees working in our educational institutions as much as possible,” he said. In the statement, the union fears that workers in education may face the same situation as health workers. “We believe the government intends to vaccinate all workers in the education sector, as it did last week in the health sector, otherwise these individuals will be suspended without pay. Failure to respect the rights and freedoms of our members is a serious mistake,” said Mary-Claude Arbor, CUPE union adviser and education coordinator.
