Quebec has ordered Pourvoirie du Domaine tourisme La Tuque inc. in Mauritius to permanently suspend operations at its aquaculture site and rehabilitate the premises.
The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks made the announcement in a press release on Monday.
This advertisement concerns an aquaculture site in the La Croche sector.
“Between 2009 and 2022, the ministry identified several violations at the site, including construction of basins on the banks and shoreline of Bourque Creek and unauthorized water abstraction,” the ministry indicated.
“Construction and maintenance of such a site also need to be authorized by the minister in the past because they are likely to release pollutants or modify the quality of the environment,” he added. Additionally, the company's fish farming operations released pollutants into Bourque Creek, in this case phosphorus.
Despite the intervention of ministry officials, the company failed to comply.
Under the Environmental Quality Act, property owners must restore the premises. They will have 60 days to submit to Quebec a site restoration plan that provides for the demolition of the site's installations, particularly the four basins, water intakes and developed channels.
