HC Kremenchuk player Andrei Deniskin in the Ukrainian Hockey League received a 13-game suspension from circuit authorities on Wednesday for his racist gesture against HC Donbass rival Jolen Smerek.

Thus, Deniskin received an automatic suspension of three games as provided in the league’s disciplinary code, reprimanding an additional 10 games.
After being exposed to this racist gesture on Sunday, Smerek indicated that he would leave his team until Deniskin was punished.
In the second half of the meeting the striker thought he was eating a banana peel. He was immediately expelled from it.
“These conditions are very difficult and I strongly believe in standing up for what is right,” Smerek wrote on his Instagram account on Tuesday. Deniskin expressed some regret after the incident.
“It’s a gesture that feels like racist insult,” he wrote on Twitter, adding that he was overwhelmed with emotions. Then he deleted his message.
International Hockey Federation (IIHF) President Luke Tordiff also responded to the incidents.
“The IIHF strongly condemns the actions of Andrei Deniskin,” the French wrote in a statement issued by its organization. Such racist and non-sporting gestures have no place in our sport and in our society. It is a direct attack on the theories and values conveyed in our sport and we see to it that all possible and necessary investigations are carried out for violating our ethical policies so that the law takes appropriate punishment. “
