Rafael Lessard found the steering wheel to take part in two events of the NASCAR Pinty Series scheduled for Sunday at the Autodrome Chowder in Wally-Junction.
The young driver from St-Joseph-de-Beuse drives the No. 8 Chevrolet owned by owner Ed Hakanson (EHR), which in recent years has allowed veteran Jason Hathaway to win a few times.
“We spent Monday on finding financial partners to drive me, Lessard explained in an interview Journal. It may be a last minute deal, but I’m glad all of this was finalized.
“I really wanted to continue my journey at Nasscar Pinty this year,” he added. But, I have to admit that it would have been impossible for me to do so without the cooperation of the sponsors. ”
Reliable support
This significant support came from Louis Jacques Companies and the Isolofom Group, two of the Beauze companies that had previously supported him, especially when he won the Volley-Junction event in June 2019 in a car made by the renowned Dumoulin competition team.
The Laro Company also agreed to collaborate on the adventure of these two races. The wealthy company, which specializes in industrial snow blowers led by brothers Louis and Denis Lauro, has already hired Lessard in 2021 to compete in the LMS (Late Model Sportsman) Championship races.
Leader in Standings
In just five lifetime starts in the Canadian Pinty Series, Lessard has already won three. Called in place of Donald Theitz, the 20-year-old rider climbed to the podium in the first rounds of the 2021 season performed on the Sunset Circuit in Ontario.
After participating in the recent Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres (ranked 14th)E), He was ahead of Alexander Tagliani (124) and Louis-Philippe Dumoulin (119) with a crop of 125 points.
“It was a shame not to continue when I saw my name at the top of the board,” he said. I hope this agreement extends to other races in the calendar. I live with hope. ”
May be in Mirabell
Since he will be taking part in two LMS events on Saturday evening, Lessard will still not be taking part in the Pinti Series race, which will be held in the afternoon at the ICAR circuit in Mirabell, at Autodrome Chowder.
“If I couldn’t find a plane to rush to two places, I realized it would be practically impossible,” he admitted.
Still, Lessard is thinking about completing a lap or two at ICAR [ce qu’on appelle dans le jargon un… Start and Park] To accumulate points in the stands.
At sunset, Lessard brilliantly replaced Donald Theitz, but later, after recovering from a hand injury, confirmed that Wight would return to his place with the Motorsport team for the volley-junction double program.
On his 12th birthday
It all started for the young racing prodigy at Autodrome Chowder.
In 2013, his 12th dayE On his birthday, he achieved his first success in the old Honda Civic in the Sport Compact mate amateur class (formerly Comicages). That same year, he became the youngest driver to compete in the Sportsman Quebec Series.
I. While Lessard is the second driver after Alex Labbe to enter the five races scheduled for the Autodrome Chowder this weekend, Blainevillois Matthew Kingsbury may be the third man to have two races of 75 Saturday night laps in the LMS, another 150 laps in the same series on Sunday and the last two laps in the NASCAR 150 pint.
