The Saints flew to Detroit on Saturday to face the Lions and are now awaiting further test results from an infected player and seven people on the same plane. Burton will also be re-tested.
According to Florio, the NFL’s contact tracing has identified three players near Burton. The league also knew that four other players were sitting near the fullback on the plane, running backwards. Alvin Camara.
Burton signed a one-year deal with the Saints in March after spending the 2019 season with the Washington football team. The 28-year-old, who entered the NFL as the fifth round pick of the Detroit Lions in 2015, has played 16% of New Orleans’ offensive snaps this season, mostly as a blocker.
The NFL experienced multiple COVID-19 outbreaks this week. Nearly 20 members of the Tennessee Titans have been tested positive since Monday, with at least one player from both the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots having the virus on Saturday, including quarterback Com Newton.
