Republican Senator Chuck Grassley Positive Tests for Coronavirus | World news

Chuck Grassley, a longtime Republican senator, announced Tuesday that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Grassley, 87, a senior senator from Iowa, said he was in custody after being infected with the virus and would actually work while waiting for test results. He did not say how he got out.

Later in the afternoon he was confirmed to be infected.

“I’m fine and not experiencing any symptoms right now, but it’s important that we all follow public health guidelines to keep each other healthy,” Grassley said in a statement.

The President of the Iowa Republican Senate is a pro temper, meaning he presides over the Senate in the absence of Mike Pence – the U.S. Vice President is also the Senate President – and is the third in a line of presidential succession, behind Pence and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and any president can do his job.
