Tennis star Serena Williams announced Tuesday on Instagram and in an interview with Vogue magazine that the “countdown” to her retirement is “on.”
“There comes a time in life when you decide to take a new path. It’s always a difficult moment when you love what you do so much. And god I love tennis. But now the countdown continues,” explained the 40-year-old American, holder of 23 Grand Slam titles, who said she “wants to focus on her role as a mother, on her spiritual goals of finding a new but exciting Serena.”.
“I’m going to enjoy the next few weeks,” added the youngest of the Williams sisters, without specifying a date for her retirement.
