Days after the approval of a new bivalent vaccine based on the Omicron variant, many are wondering if they should get their booster dose against COVID now or wait for this new injection.

“There is no point in waiting. Ideally, what you need to do is boost your immunity as soon as possible,” believes retired virologist Jacques Lapierre.

Hence he recommended, in an interview with LCN, to “go with the available vaccine”.

“If we add a booster, we can bring our immunity back to 80-85%, which is fantastic, and then if we go with a new vaccine, we can’t say that this 80-85% will probably go up to 90%. It’s a big difference”, supports the retired virologist.

Although it is best to receive your booster dose as soon as possible, according to Jacques Lapierre, the new bivalent vaccine, when it becomes available, will make it possible to develop antibodies against variants of COVID.

“By adding Omicron, we add the characteristics of new types of viruses that come in, new variants, and at that time, we cover these variants a little bit better, so we bring antibodies directly into our immune system against these variants,” he explains. Expert.

However, the latter recognizes that it is difficult to follow the evolution of the virus in the preparation of vaccines, because it is so fast.
