Canadian Bianca Andres got off to a good start on Monday at Strasbourg International, beating Spain’s Andrea Lazaro Garcia 6-1, 6-2 in two sets.
In just 62 minutes of play, the seventh rocket in the world received five break points from its opponent, ranking 279th in the WTA standings. Each time, she tore the game apart.
Andres was most effective when he had 76% of the balls in his hand with the first balls. She also won 73% of the rally in Serve.
A Maple Leaf spokeswoman has not played since the Miami Open final, having had to retire from Australia’s Ashley Barty with an ankle injury. Three weeks later, she also had to give up the Madrid Open because of her contract with COVID-19.
The 20-year-old is chasing the fourth WTA Tour title for Andres, but first on clay. She will travel to Paris to compete in the French Open, where she will compete in the second round in 2019.
