Famous Japanese artist Takashi Murakami teamed up with the Supreme fashion brand to raise funds during the coronavirus pandemic – and eventually raised more than one million dollars.
Murakami, founder of the “Superflat” movement which blurs high and low cultural boundaries, helped create T-shirts with original artwork. Print the Supreme logo feature on the artist’s signature flower.
The shirt originally sold for $ 60. But whenever Supreme released new items, they were quickly grabbed and resold at a much higher price online, with fans all over the world screaming for coveted items – and this time not different. T-shirts are resold for up to $ 1,750 on the Grailed streetwear site.
Supreme is one of the most sought-after fashion brands, offering collaboration with people like Louis Vuitton, Lacoste, Nike and Timberland.
On Tuesday, Help USA posted a photo of the shirt on Instagram, thanking the brand for donating $ 1,052,040 in sales.
“This extraordinary gift comes at a time of our clients’ greatest needs and supports our work nationally to provide the most vulnerable places for victims to call home, food and important services during this crisis and beyond,” the post said.
