The Amazon Ring reveals a flying drone and new car alarms in your home

During Amazon’s fall hardware program, the company unveiled a number of new ring products that fly around and monitor your home, including an autonomous drone.

The Ring Always home cam drone flies by itself, but users can tell which way to go through their home. This means mapping the interior of your home in the setup for the drone and setting the lookout points to make sure the drone captures all the information you have afterwards.

The drone also flies to check for interruptions triggered by other ring alarms.

While this new camera is still flying, it returns to the little docking station, where it recharges so that it can pass another later. When sitting in its dock, the camera and microphones are covered, so it only records when flying around, Amazon said.

An interesting concept, however, is that most people want to pay 9 249 USD (approximately $ 332 CAD) for this drone, as they are able to place very low cost cameras around their home. Privacy issues surrounding a small flying drone can also constantly monitor your home. RingHomecom is set to release in 2021 shortly.

Ring car alarms

Beyond the futuristic, dystopian home drone, Ring has announced three new products targeting the car.

The first is called a ring car alarm and plugs into the OBD-II port that most cars have, and then alerts users to bumps, break-ins when you pull and more. When the device detects one of these events, it triggers an alert sent to the user’s phone so that they can set an alarm. It can also link to your Alexa devices so they let you know too.

Then there’s the ring car cam, which also monitors for bumps and break-ins like a ring car alarm, but videotapes what’s going on. The device also has a car crash detection feature that alerts local authorities in case of a serious collision.

The final device called the Ring Car Connect is a software framework for developers and a post-device that adds features directly to the vehicle from the ring car alarm and ring car cam. So far, it is only available on Tesla cars, but once users have installed the device, they can view footage from Tesla cameras and record driving footage through the Ring app.

Overall, Amazon is unlikely to bring these products to Canada because they need to partner with Canadian carriers.
