The anchor of the ship that caused the California oil spill?

Los Angeles | The Coast Guard is trying to determine if the oil spill threatening California beaches was caused by a ship’s anchor piercing an oil pipeline, local media reported Tuesday.

A total of 24 kilometers of coastline between Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach, the famous beaches in South Los Angeles are also famous for their dolphins, seals and other sea creatures.

Fishing was also banned over the weekend due to a leak of up to 480,000 liters of crude oil from a nearby pipeline.

Los Angeles and Long Beach ports are the busiest in the world. Like other infrastructure of this type, they face significant delays, the COVID-19 health crisis intensifies, and many cargo ships and container vessels have to wait offshore before being docked.

These ships are assigned anchor points away from pipelines and other underwater equipment.

But the anchor pipeline thrown in the wrong place could be pulled up to about fifteen meters, which led to the leak, according to the source of the investigation into the oil spill cited by the Daily Los Angeles Times.

Relief has mobilized fourteen special vessels that have been busy retrieving as much oil as possible since Sunday. More than 15,000 liters were recovered from the sea on Monday evening.

California Coast Guard Captain Rebecca Ore said, “Many of us specialists are working to clean up this oil spill and keep it safe for the public and the environment.

Texan Company Amplify Energy, which manages the pipeline through its subsidiary Beta Offshore, sent a remote-controlled vehicle to inspect its installation and sent a team of divers after identifying the source of the leak.

Its CEO, Martin Wilsher, vowed to “do what is necessary” to correct the impact of the oil spill, which will be partly through the floating booms deployed by the rescue.

Four seabirds trapped in the oil were collected Monday, but some protected reserves along the coast have been polluted.

In the opinion of experts, it is still too early to assess the damage, because the consequences on the environment are not felt for many days or even weeks.

The source of the oil spill occurred near the leaky Ellie platform, which was built in the 1980s to process raw material collected from dozens of neighboring wells.

A total of 23 oil and gas platforms have been set up in Federal Waters, Southern California.
