In addition, active hospital and intensive care unit admissions increased on Friday. The hospital with COVID-19 now has 240 Alberts and 54 are receiving ICU treatment. There are currently 70 ICU beds in Alberta reserved for COVID-19 patients, and now more than a third are in use. The Edmonton zone, which currently has 30 ICUs, has the highest hospitalization rates.

Alberta Health Medical Officer Dr Deena Hinsha tweeted Friday that the province’s health system needs to continue to support those in need of medical care.

She announced that health care workers who test positive for COVID-19 would now have to be isolated for only 10 days rather than 14 days after the onset of symptoms, a move that could increase the number of staff and disrupt hospitals and other intensive care sites.

“Health care workers are isolated for 10 days after the onset of symptoms or until symptoms resolve, after which they can resume their normal activities,” Hinsha tweeted. “(It) allows staff to work safely back in the absence of a symptom and to provide the safe, quality care that patients need.”

The move would bring rules for health care workers to comply with the rest of the Alberts, which only have 10 days to separate and does not change Alberta’s legal detention period.

There are currently 180 health care workers with COVID-19 in Calgary and 196 in Edmonton. A total of 2,354 workers recovered from the virus.

Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated during periods of continuous care and supportive care in Calgary. There are 21 such facilities in the city with the spread of COVID-19.

There are less than 10 cases of long-term care and supportive life prevalence, but some are associated with significant case groups. Revera Mount Royal Long Term Care Home saw seven deaths from 98 cases, 29 of which were active. At Egecare Sky Point, there were four deaths and 61 cases, 14 of which are still active.

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi Concerns were expressed on Friday with recent regional trends, Questioned whether the province had done enough to buck the curve of the virus.
