(Montreal) The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) has warned citizens against false applications for Quebec vaccine passports.
MSSS on Friday reported that “the visual developed for the VaxiCode application has been copied by people and has succeeded in getting these fake applications approved for download on Google Play”.
The ministry said it had taken steps with Google to remove these bogus applications quickly.
“It is important to note that this situation is not associated with any integrity or security issues with the official VaxiCode and VaxiCode Verif applications,” MSSS added, adding that “these are secure and allow ‘to ensure the protection of personal information’.
To avoid falling prey to these fake applications, the government advises to check certain criteria.
For the person who wants to get his vaccine passport, the application name must be “VaxiCode”, before or after any other word, for the merchant, the application name must be exactly “VaxiCode Verif”, before or after the pronunciation and any other word.
Also, “VaxiCode and VaxiCode Verif only ask for permission to access the device’s camera or files / images”, and the app is ad-free.
According to MSSS, “Duplicate applications will not allow you to download your QR code. ”
