The situation for the Ukrainian army in Sevirodonetsk “worsened”

Following the breakthrough, the regional governor announced Monday morning that the situation of Ukrainian forces in the key city in the east of the country and in the current center of fierce fighting with Russian forces in Siverodonetsk was “worse”.

“The fighting in Sverdlovnetsk was very intense. Our defenders were able to counter-attack and liberate half of the city, but the situation worsened for us,” Sergei Guidoi, governor of the Lugansk region, told Ukrainian television 1 + 1 without further details.

According to him, the bombings intensified on the neighboring towns of Sverdlovnetsk and Lisztzhansk, which are strategically located in the “heights” and “to capture the line of defense”.

He accused the Russians of “destroying everything with their usual burning land strategy” so that “there is nothing left to defend”.

The industrial center is still the largest Ukrainian base in the Lugansk region, where Russian troops have been advancing in recent weeks after being withdrawn or evacuated from other parts of Ukraine, including the capital, Kyiv.

After the first repulse of the Russian invasion of Sevirodonetsk, the Ukrainians gradually returned there.

Russia’s Defense Ministry, for its part, assured on Saturday that Ukrainian forces were withdrawing toward Lisztzhansk, saying “Severodonetsk (up to 90% of many units) suffered heavy casualties in the fighting”.

The Russian military has been trying to capture the Donbass, which has been partly in the hands of pro-Russian separatists since 2014, given to the Ukrainian territories of Donetsk and Lugansk.
