The Trump Organization was found guilty of tax evasion in New York

Donald Trump’s Family Business, The Trump OrganizationThe former Republican president was found guilty Tuesday of financial and tax fraud at the end of a trial in New York where he was not tried, Manhattan prosecutor Alvin Bragg announced.

The jury, which deliberated Monday after more than a month of deliberations, “found the Trump Corporation and the Trump Payroll Corporation guilty on all counts,” Mr. Bragg said on his Twitter account.

Both companies were tried for tax evasion and falsification of accounting statements, particularly with the aim of hiding financial compensation from some senior executives from the tax services.

“This is a case of greed and fraud. In Manhattan, no company is above the law”, the prosecutor welcomed Bragg in a press release, noting that it was the first time a company owned by Donald Trump had been convicted as a criminal. The billionaire is now officially in the running for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

“For 13 years, the Trump Corporation and the Trump Payroll Corporation evaded the law by providing lavish benefits and compensation to high-level executives, but deliberately hiding these benefits from tax authorities to avoid paying taxes,” he added.

The prosecutor has directed that the sentence be pronounced on January 13, 2023.

In this case, the family group’s former financial director, Allen Weiselberg, struck a deal with justice in August and pleaded guilty to 15 counts of fraud and tax evasion in connection with $1.76 million in undisclosed income between 2005 and 2021. In particular, the Trump family testified during the trial of the group’s company, which manages hotels, golf courses and real estate investments.

At the start of the hearing, Donald Trump denounced the Democrats’ “witch hunt” against him.
