Alain Bouchard Company announced ten days ago that it was setting up the ATMs of the American company Bitcoin Depot in its convenience stores.
If they were only installed in the Couch-Tord brand Circle K in Ontario and the United States, they would have been in Quebec a long time ago.
“Circle K can attract new customers [ses] Stores ”through these counters, the company believes.
The operation is simple: you insert the banknotes into the slot and you send everything to your cryptographic wallet address.
“The whole process takes about 1 to 2 minutes from creating the account to completing the transaction,” Couch-Tard assured.
It is the first of its kind in the country. Generally, Bitcoin buyers have to go through the Coinbase in the United States and the ShakePay Exchange in Quebec to convert their Canadian dollars into virtual currency.
Higher transaction fees
But beware of the transaction fees of Bitcoin Depot, which is known for its greed in this regard. The company earns 7% every time a user buys Bitcoin, Ethereum or any other cryptocurrency.
At ShakePay, a Canadian exchange with offices in Montreal, we talk about a transaction fee of 0.5 to 1%. And at Cubacois Zapper, fees are 0.3%.
Bitcoin Depot ATMs are also used only for transactions of $ 300 or less. To go further, you need to register in advance and prove your identity.
More than ten of these counters are already in service in some Circle K in Toronto.
