The US Embassy in Ukraine warned on Tuesday that Russia could attack civilian infrastructure and government buildings “in the coming days” and called on US citizens to “leave Ukraine now”.
“The Department of State has information that Russia will intensify its efforts against civilian infrastructure and government facilities in Ukraine in the coming days,” the embassy said in a message posted on its website, without further details on the locations involved.
She called on US citizens to “leave Ukraine now using available private ground transportation.”
The conflict, which began on February 24 with a Russian invasion, will enter its seventh month on Wednesday.
Since the withdrawal of Russian troops from around Kyiv in late March, much of the fighting has been centered in eastern Ukraine, where Moscow slowly gained ground before the front froze and the counteroffensive in the south, which Ukrainian forces say they are conducting, is also slow.
Russia, however, regularly targets Ukrainian cities with long-range missiles, but these attacks rarely target the capital or its environs.
