Bouchard, who is currently unranked in singles on the WTA, was named in the qualification table for the Grand Slam tournament published on Monday. She will face Japan’s Yuki Naito (197) in the first of three roundse)
Bouchard, who made her presence felt in the round of 16 in New York (2014 and 2015), looked to make a comeback in August after a 17-month absence at the WTA 125 tournament in Vancouver. She lost in the first round to Dutch Arianne Hartono.
Recovering from shoulder surgery, she will try to be one of the 16 women who will reach the main draw at the end of this qualifying tournament.
The lone Canadian in the women’s qualifier, Carol Zhao (186e) against China’s Zhu Lin (74).e), the second favorite. The Sumit Nagal Indian (464e) is on the path of Vasek Pospisil (132).e), 26e seed in men’s qualifying.
Qualifying begins on Tuesday and the champions will be crowned on September 12.
