Variant Delta | Two doses of Pfizer or AstraZeneca against hospitalization

The Public Health England (PHE) study shows 96% protection against hospitalization after two doses of Pfizer / BioMtech vaccine and 92% for Oxford / Astrogenica.

Of the 14,019 people infected with this variant, only 166 were hospitalized, according to a study conducted between April 12 and June 4 that emphasized “comparable results with the effect of the vaccine on preventing hospitalization associated with the alpha variant”. “This proof of the effectiveness of the two doses against the variants shows how crucial a second vaccination is,” said Health Minister Matt Hancock, who welcomed the British vaccination program as “already saving thousands of lives.”

In the previous PHE analysis the two-dose vaccine Delta variant was as effective as the alpha, but not a single dose.

For Mary Ramsay, who is responsible for the PHE vaccines, it is “essential to receive both doses as soon as they are provided to get maximum protection against all existing and developing variants”.

More infectious than the alpha variant, the delta variant now dominates the United Kingdom, killing nearly 128,000 people due to the epidemic in Europe.

Currently, about 80% of adults in the UK have received a single dose of the vaccine, but only 57% have received two doses.
