Many Videotron subscribers experienced major outages in Quebec starting Friday morning. This was probably due to vandalism.
The fiber optic break caused telecommunications services to be disrupted for certain customers in the Beauport, Charlesbourg, Courville, Lebourgneuf, Limoilou, Montmorency and Saint-Laurent-de-l’Le-d’Orléans sectors.
“Our team on the ground was able to observe that the fiber optic cables were severed and the circumstances led us to believe it was an act of vandalism,” a spokesperson confirmed in writing.
A report was also made to the Quebec City Police Service, according to spokeswoman Marie-Pierre Rivard.
“In the morning, we were told about possible wrongdoing regarding the breakdown, so we will go to analyze the facts”, she stated.
Videotron teams have been mobilized on the ground to restore service as soon as possible.
On its website, the company indicated that services should be gradually and fully restored to all customers by early evening.
According to recently obtained data, around 70% of the affected customers have now recovered their services.
