‘You’re welcome, Namaste’: Elon Musk paid for Stephen King’s blue hook on Twitter

Elon Musk has revealed that he paid for Stephen King, William Shatner and LeBron James’ Twitter Blue subscription.

On Thursday, the platform’s CEO removed all blue verification checkmarks from accounts that had not subscribed to its paid subscription service. However, some celebrities have retained the Blue tick despite not paying for the Twitter Blue service.

“My Twitter account says I am subscribed to Twitter Blue. I didn’t,” tweeted horror writer Stephen King, recalling that he previously said he wouldn’t pay to check his checkmark. “My Twitter account says I gave a phone number. This is not the case.”

“You’re welcome, Namaste,” replied Elon Musk, apparently paying for Stephen King’s certification himself.

The billionaire entrepreneur later confirmed that he paid for some subscriptions: “I pay for some [comptes] Personally.” He clarified that he was only paying for the subscriptions of Stephen King, LeBron James and Legend. Star Trek William Shatner.

Twitter’s verified blue tick system was originally used to distinguish real holders of popular accounts, such as celebrities, media and organizations, from imposters or parodies. Elon Musk decided to scrap this feature when he bought the site last year, requiring users to pay to get ticked off.

Several celebrities reacted to the loss of their blue check mark on Thursday, with Ben Stiller writing, “A blue check mark still doesn’t look like me.” The Twitter boss responded with a smiling emoji.
