The tenth named storm
A tenth named storm has emerged in the Atlantic: Julia. Currently, it has some Central American countries in its sights, including Nicaragua and Honduras. Its winds are gusting above 65 kmph, but the storm is likely to intensify. Its speed of movement is estimated at 30 km per hour.
A terrifying hurricane
Julia is expected to reach Category 1 by Saturday as it intensifies in the warm Atlantic waters. The storm will lose strength as it hits the coast in Central America. However, it must release a significant amount of water. Rains in Nicaragua and Honduras can cause significant damage. In fact, the trajectory this storm has taken is typical of the end of the season. The presence of a high pressure area prevents large systems from moving north.
Floods and landslides
Along with Nicaragua and Honduras, the islands of San Andres and Providence are worth seeing. Heavy rain is predicted: 400 mm in just 36 hours. In 2020, Category 4 Hurricane Eta devastated the region, causing over 200 deaths, mudslides and landslides. Two weeks later, another major storm hit these countries: Iota. The effects of these storms caused a real disaster.
