The Interior Health area of British Columbia is experiencing two new outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care homes, but none of the residents have tested positive for coronavirus.
In Kamloops, Hamlets on the West Side A staff member is now in a partial lockdown after being infected with the coronavirus.
The seniors facility said the lone staff reported symptoms Tuesday and called in sick. On Saturday, test results revealed a positive infection.
General Manager Bob Atfield said Interior Health moved quickly to start contract tracing and have exposure.
“They announced that only two of our 10 care floors were spread, and that’s a total of 36 residents,” Atfield said, adding that none of the residents showed any symptoms yet.
“Another of our staff who did not show symptoms requested a 14-day separation.”
Hamlets on the West Side serves 62 auxiliary living units and 112 complex care beds. Atfield said all residents directly affected by the lock-down floors need dementia care.
He said that COVID-19 testing is being conducted only on those who exhibit symptoms of Interior Health Illness.
The Kilowana Care Home outreach was announced Friday
On Friday, Interior Health announced the outbreak of COVID-19 in its Belgo unit at Kellovana’s Sun Point Village Care Home.
In a written statement, Interior Health said a staff member tested positive, but none of the occupants were present, and none of the occupants experienced symptoms.

Interior Health said long-term seniors care residents have not tested positive for COVID-19 in any of the homes under its jurisdiction.
