To help during the pandemic: Astronaut David Saint-Jacques goes back to the medicine house

To help hospitals plagued by the pandemic, Canadian astronaut, engineer and Dr. David Saint-Jacques is heading back to his roots.

The dr Saint-Jacques dropped out of medicine in 2009 when he was commissioned as a NASA astronaut.

After seeing various calls for help from colleagues, David Saint-Jacques decided it was the right time to return to medicine.

Since he has not practiced for ten years, he is currently in the process of retrieving his certification from the McGill University Health Center (MUHC) in Montreal. “The slope is a bit steep for an old man like me,” he joked in an interview with LCN on Friday.

“The art of health care needs to be practiced regularly to be truly good. I take it very humbly, I have a lot of crusts to eat before being independent, ”said Mr. Saint-Jacques.

Who remained in space from December 2018 to June 2019, impressed himself with the work of caretakers on the ground in the current circumstances.

“The pandemic is a disaster, but it is unfortunate to see all the devastating effects on the rest of the health system,” he lamented.

The astronaut and physician emphasized the importance of adhering to sanitary rules. “We’re tired of hearing it, we’re tired of doing it, but we shouldn’t lower our defenses,” he concluded.
