Nearly 1,800 new cases were reported in Ontario

Health Minister Christine Elliott said there were 416 new cases in Toronto, 355 in the neighboring Peel area, 147 in the Durham area and 140 in the York area.

This data is based on more than 34,000 tests.

Hospitals are treating 1,207 patients, including 706 in intensive care, the health ministry said. Of these, 504 needed a respirator.

According to Ontario officials, 190,129 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given for a total of 7.9 million doses from previous estimates.

Authorities have also begun their decontamination plan by allowing open recreational facilities to reopen with some restrictions.

These facilities include golf courses, soccer, tennis, basketball and other sports, as well as water games and skate parks. However, outdoor fitness classes or team sports are not yet allowed.

Residents of long-term care facilities can now receive outside visitors.

Under the new rules, residents can place two visitors at once, with children under the age of two not counting against this number.

Visitors no longer need to undergo a rapid antigen screening test, as their visit takes place outdoors. However, they must maintain physical distance and wear a mask.
