The number of boss-laurentians waiting for surgery continues to rise

As of June 10, some 162 people in Boss-Saint-Laurent had been waiting more than a year for surgery, and 360 had been patients for more than six months.

Before the epidemic, about 30 people had been waiting for surgery for more than six months.

Due to load shedding, the operating room at Rimowski Regional Hospital is operating at between 30% and 50% of its normal capacity.

Although hospitalized in the COVID unit, some staff were able to return to the operating room, but the pace did not begin quickly in the coming weeks due to the summer holidays.

“In the summer, we want to make sure the size is comparable to what is done in other regular summers so as not to prolong the delay,” Dr Jean-Christophe Carvalho, deputy chairman and CEO from Boss-Saint, explained Thursday. -Laurent Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS), to TVA Novels.

When CISSS was created in 2015-2016, 450 people had been waiting for surgery in Boss-Saint-Laurent for more than six months. CISSS has been able to significantly reduce this waiting list over a period of two to three years. But the deputy CEO does not believe we will have to wait long to find out the delay that has accumulated during the epidemic.

“We need to catch what we want to do as soon as possible, there is still more skill and experience to deal with surgical delays than at the beginning of CSS creation,” Dr. Carvalho said.

According to the management of CISSS du Boss-Saint-Laurent, the catch will take this fall and will definitely continue into the 2022 winter.
