(Montreal) Quebec has commissioned a working group to examine CEGEP and French language proficiency among university students. “I need a diagnosis to find out why we have this problem,” Higher Education Minister Daniel McConnell explained.
Minister McCann noted at a news conference on Thursday that the uniform French exam pass rates that students must pass at the end of their college course were “not up to what Quebec wants”.
“I asked the working group to look into it [sur la question] : Why is this difficult for us? I really want to improve learning and mastery in French. I think this is the way to improve the graduation rate, ”said Daniel McCann.
She described the file as “very important” and recalled that masters in French were a must, regardless of the discipline studied.
Minister McCann announced an investment of $ 450 million over the next five years to boost success in higher education. The hiring of experts in support of students is planned.
Campaigns are also conducted to promote and improve higher education. Quebec also seeks to facilitate the reception and integration of students and to increase the rapid training offer to reduce labor shortages.
