COVID-19: New record of daily deaths in Russia

Moscow, Russia | Russia set a new record of daily deaths from COVID-19 on Friday, despite a delta variant wave that has hit the country since June, with no vaccine slowdown and no control measures.

According to the Daily Toll provided by the Russian Government Crisis Center, 828 people have died due to the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours. On September 23 and August 26, 2021, the previous record of 820 deaths was doubled.

Russia is the worst hit country in Europe.

A total of 202,273 people have died from COVID-19 since the outbreak, according to the compulsory government definition of COVID-19 deaths. The Russian statistics agency Rosestat, which has a broader definition, reported that by the end of July 2021 more than 350,000 people had died.

Since June, Russia has been hit hard by the delta variant of the coronavirus, which has become more contagious and has failed to stop its progress. The number of new cases reached 21,379 on Friday.

Vaccination in the wake of the mistrust of the authorities, despite the design of several national vaccines, has stalled for months. According to an estimate from the Gogov site, only 28.4% of the Russian population has been fully vaccinated to date.

Public authorities refuse to adopt compulsory health measures or regulation to protect a ten-year-old sluggish economy. Wearing a mask, however, is very unpredictable in public places and hints for distance are rarely observed.

The city of Moscow has agreed to face a second expansion of the Delta variant for the first time this summer. Pollution increased by 24% during the week, and hospitalization increased by 15%.

The Russian presidency on Thursday overturned any major sanctions, but has not imposed any tough measures to protect the economy since it took control in the spring of 2020.

The contact case has been isolated since the beginning of last week, after President Vladimir Putin appeared to focus on the main epidemic of dozens of patients in the Kremlin.
