No apology from the debate moderator

Shachi Kurl, moderator of the Leaders’ Debate in English, spoke out to save the tooth for the first time in two weeks and to nail down his question to the Black Cubacois leader who provoked outrage in Quebec.

Question: “You deny that there are issues with racism in Quebec. Yet you support laws such as Bill 96 and Bill 21 that suppress religious minorities, Anglophones and Allophones. Can you help Canadians living outside the province understand why these parties support these discriminatory laws?”

In Letter of opinion Published on Saturday Globe and Mail, M^{To me} Kurl defended his question “unquestionably.”

“This question gave Mr. Blanchett the opportunity to talk about secularism with people outside of Quebec. He could share the Quebec perspective with the rest of Canada. He chose not to do so,” she wrote.

Censorship

As serious as the issue was, the Quebec National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution calling for an apology from the broadcaster and condemning “Quebec Bashing”, which Ms Kurl considered “censorship.”

If she finds the question different, she believes it did not prevent federal party leaders and Quebec Prime Minister Franois Legalt‌ from “exploiting them for their own interests.”

Unanimous critical reactions

The leader of the Black Cubacos, Yves-Franకోois Blanchett, replied to Mr.^{To me} Kurl described her in an open letter as a “victim” of Canadian culture.

She asked [dans sa lettre] Prevalence and the same prejudices, the same contempt, the accuracy of moral dominance are not one in the same, and no one in Canada questions the ‘listeners’.

Alexander Bouleris, deputy leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP), responded by acknowledging that “recognizing the weight of his words” and apologizing were probably “the least things” to Mr.^{To me} Curl.

“It is a serious mistake to suggest that there is only one province with racism when there is this problem across Canada,” he said in a written statement.

The press secretary of the Conservative Party of Canada, Erin O’Toole, apologized for the question and reiterated that the Cubes were “not racist”.

“The moderator deserves her opinion, which is contrary to most Quebecs,” Mr Legalt, the office of Quebec Premier Franకోois Legalt, announced in part.
